Building marketable skills primarily for minorities and/or women interested in careers in Systems Analysis and Design

THE QUALIFIED ACADEMY

 An online 30-day Master Class that uses a community-oriented approach focused on building marketable skills primarily for minorities and/or women interested in the fields of Business Systems Analysis, Process Engineering, Product Management, Requirements Engineering, Systems Engineering, and User Experience Research. Online courses are completed within 30-days to offer individuals a complete view of Systems Analysis and Design.


ELIGIBILITY

Applicants should be interested in pursuing a career in Business Systems Analysis, Process Engineering, Product Management, Requirements Engineering, Systems Engineering, and User Experience Research Roles.  Applicants must meet one or more of the following:

  • Be primarily a minority and/or a woman.
  • Be a college graduate or currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Engineering or another similar degree in science, technology, engineering or math.
  • Have an interest in a career change.
  • Have at least 5 years of professional work experience in any industry.  

and

  • Have access to a laptop or personal computer with high speed internet and the latest version of Microsoft 10 or equivalent

MASTER CLASS DETAILS

Class Overview

Project and Software Development Life-Cycle 

Students will learn the fundamentals of the distinction between the project management life cycle and the software development life cycle. The course will include real world experience and exercises. 


Software Requirements Elicitation 

During the master class, students will perform exercises and role play eliciting requirements from stakeholders and end users. 


Software Analysis 

Students will participate in hands-on activities to begin the analysis process based on Orca Intelligence's methodologies and experience. We will review and perform exercises using methods such as CRUD (CREATE, READ, UPDATE, DELETE).  We will use the Orca Intelligence application, Episteme, and other tools to manage requirements.


Software Design 

Students will go through the process of transforming the information captured during the analysis in order to design a system that best fits the needs of the end user. This segment will include  data integration diagrams, process and workflow design basics, logical database design, and wire-frame  design.


Team Collaboration 

Students will work in a collaborative environment in order to complete assignments and simulate an actual software development project. 


Develop a Working Application 

The final project will be a working software based on the evolution of the work the students develop.

Every professional requires a community to help support their career. Through The Qualified Academy, students will be assessed and can voluntarily engage and learn from a team of pre-selected Academy organizations called the POD (Professional Organizations for Diversity).

Community Interest Areas

 The Qualified Academy's approach to learning is through education and community to advance the fundamental skill sets of women of color. As a result, we require each student to participate in four (4) recommended community areas of interest from our Professional Organizations for Diversity (POD) members. Participation requires a 15 minute consultation with a member, 20 minute group session, or watching a 10 minute video. The areas of interest include:
